I swear to God and all that is holy, I fall madder and more deeply in love with Helena Hunting and her characters as the Pucked series continues. I didn’t think anyone could top Alex Waters in Pucked. Then came Miller “Buck” Butterson in Pucked Up. WRONG! I Fell hard. Then I said “Ok there’s no way anyone will top Miller.” WRONG AGAIN! Oh. So. Wrong. This book? I felt like I experienced an intergalactic orgasm!

Randy Balls Ballistic is unlike any book boyfriend I’ve ever met. He had me at “The #f*ck you say to her?” I can literally STILL hear that spoon drop in his bowl. **sighs** I will NEVER forget that moment. It’s to go down in my “Best book boyfriend moments of all time”. There’s just something about him. He’s chivalrous. Gorgeous. Sexy. Charming. Hilarious. Delicious. I wanted to lock him up in my pussy prison!!! And Lily? TO. DIE. FOR. She is my favourite lady. I could relate to her on so many levels. And she’s just adorable and feisty and simply beautiful in so many damn ways! She stole my heart! I want to marry her!

Now. Put these two together? BALLISTIC. MIND BLOWING. CHEMISTRY. Oh my God. Some of the scenes these two had. Whoa. I felt like I was zapped right in my vagina emporium! Some of the things these two would say to each other. Do to each other. JFC. HOTTER. THAN. HELL. Whew. Ok, lets talk about the FEELS. Because I have to say I am damn sure I felt them all. My heart swelled, stuttered and burst with love, happiness and even a bit of pain. Loved. It. And of course, we cannot forget to mention the comedy. Best. One liners. EVER. I laughed so damn hard I had tears. My face hurt from smiling so much. My abs felt like I did a bazillion crunches! Lily and Randy have touched a part of me forever. Maybe that sounds cheesy. But it’s the truth. Their love story is funny, sexy, emotional and endearing. It’s everything and all of the things that make the perfect romance novel.

Helena never ceases to captivate me with her originality and purely eloquent writing. There’s nobody like her. And that is part of what keeps me coming back again and again. She’s my kind of crazy

Herbert Pierce has a problem: his wife Mildred told him he had to give up his lady friend or move out (Chapter 1). Bert inherited a ranch in Glendale and subdivided it to become rich. He invested in stocks on margin and was wiped out in 1929. Mildred is skilled in baking cakes. Eleven year old Veda quickly noticed her father's absence. [Is her snobbery a fatal flaw?] Their home may be in foreclosure soon. Mrs. Gessler educates Mildred about men (Chapter 2). Mildred learned about employment opportunities, and found a job as a waitress (Chapter 3). Mildred got Bert's car (Chapter 4). Mildred saw an opportunity to bake cakes for the restaurant (Chapter 5). She tries to beat some sense into Veda. Mildred studied the operation of the restaurant to learn the business for her future (Chapter 6). Wally explains how Mildred can buy property for her planned restaurant.

Mildred met Monty Beragon and became involved with him (Chapter 7). The youngest daughter gets the grippe, goes to the hospital, and dies (Chapter 8). Chapter 9 describes the operation of her small restaurant. "Salad is served first in California." Her first day was a success, people loved home-made waffles. There is a sly reference to Hoover and Roosevelt (Chapter 10). Veda will take piano lessons from an expert. The Beragon family went bust and had to sell their palatial residence in Pasadena. [Are those who are born into wealth helpless without it?] Mildred speaks her mind to Monty. The Repeal of Prohibition starts Chapter 11. Mildred started to serve cocktails and drew bigger and better dinner trade. Veda reveals her perverse nature on Christmas day. Was Veda corrupted by Monty? Mildred tells off Monty and breaks up with him.

Mildred's restaurant is doing well, she starts a branch in Beverly (Chapter 12). Then another in Laguna Beach. A wealthy Mildred incorporates as a safeguard against lawsuits. Veda devoted her whole time to music, but was not taken on as a pupil by a famous maestro. Veda grew up and spent time with her new friends (Chapter 13). Did she get into a mess of trouble? Mildred throws her out of their "hovel"! Mildred learns that Veda has a job singing on a popular radio program (Chapter 14). Mr. Treviso warns Mildred. The now wealthy Mildred buys the Beragon mansion (Chapter 15). Veda sings at the Hollywood Bowl (Chapter 16)! The house was a heavy financial load, and new competition affected business to a great extent. Mildred must now choose between work and pleasure. One night Mildred gets the shock of her life! Chapter 17 ends the story. Mildred has lost her business and was poor again, but not vanquished. Veda will move to New York for a new start. Will Mildred begin her life over again? What will Veda do with her life? Dump Monty? Does anyone care?

This is a more complex story than Cain's earlier novels. The number of racy scenes made it scandalous, as well as the personal life of Mildred. This book tells about life then from its background details. It also educates about starting a small business. Adopting a life of leisure can be poisonous to a small business owner. Most of all it is a warning about certain personality types; you may encounter them in your life. Like his earlier novels, this is a story about betrayal and the punishment for moral lapses. The book is much better than the film. [Would Jerry Springer ever have a show where the mother and daughter were in a romance with the same man?]

I loved the book even more than the movie because the movie was not as true to the book. However, the book I received was very old, which I didn't mind, but the last page was torn in half. Torn in half, the last page. Lucky I knew the ending.

About the Author
Joseph M. Bessette is the Alice Tweed Tuohy Professor of Government and Ethics at Claremont McKenna College (CMC), where he has been on the faculty since 1990. He also teaches courses in the Department of Politics and Policy at the Claremont Graduate University. Dr. Bessette received a B.S. in Physics from Boston College and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. Prior to coming to CMC, he served as Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics in the U.S. Department of Justice (1985-1990) and as Director of Planning, Training, and Management for the Cook County, Illinois, State's Attorney's Office (1981-1984). Dr. Bessette has also held full-time teaching positions at the University of Virginia and The Catholic University of America. He is the author of, among other works, THE MILD VOICE OF REASON: DELIBERATIVE DEMOCRACY AND AMERICAN NATIONAL GOVERNMENT and co-editor and contributor to THE PRESIDENCY IN THE CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER and THE CONSTITUTIONAL PRESIDENCY. He is currently working on a book on the death penalty in the United States.

John J. Pitney, Jr., is the Roy P. Crocker Professor of American Politics at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California. He received his B.A. in political science from Union College, where he was co-valedictorian. He earned his Ph.D. in political science at Yale, where he was a National Science Foundation Fellow. Dr. Pitney has been named as one of The Princeton Review's Top 300 College Professors for 2012. From 1978 to 1980, he worked in the New York State Senate and from 1983 to 1984, as a Congressional Fellow of the American Political Science Association, he worked for Senator Alfonse D'Amato of New York and the House Republican Policy Committee, chaired by Representative Dick Cheney of Wyoming. From 1984 to 1986, he was senior domestic policy analyst for the House Republican Research Committee. He joined the Claremont McKenna College faculty in 1986. From 1989 to 1991, during a leave of absence, he worked at the Research Department of the Republican National Committee, first as deputy director, then as acting director. He has written articles for THE WASHINGTON POST, THE WEEKLY STANDARD, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES, and ROLL CALL, among others. His scholarly works include THE ART OF POLITICAL WARFARE, published in 2000 by the University of Oklahoma Press.

If you watch Thor, when Erik Selvig's character is at the library, the book he picks up is "myths and legends from around the world by anneka sunden" Although this title does not have the dust cover as seen in the movie showing Anneka Sunden's name at the top, it might be a reprint of it. So, if you're trying to find what the prop was, you might try ABE for the original, but if not, this one might just be 'it'.

"Myths and Legends" for kids

I am a 15 year old and, I, as an avid reader, often find my self caught up in using sophisticated and intense works for research on projects, etc. However, one book that I have had for many years has helped me greatly through the years among other things. Myths and Legends from around the World is a beautiful book. The myths are interesting and (finally) understandable. Also, the illustrations are outstandingly beautiful and detailed. If you are contemplating buying a book of myths, for kids or adults, this is the one.

GOOD? BAD? OK!

This picture book by Sandy Shepherd is an ok read for people that enjoy different myths and legends told from hundred of years ago. It also has some pretty nice illustration by Tudor Humphries.

The book is about different myths and legends from around the world. They have stories about how animals and plant became how they are, and how Earth is made of soil and above it is sky. I thought some of the stories were interesting, but others were a bit confusing, like some of the stories about God and spirits or founders and inventors.

The context of the book is understandable and good for younger readers to understand, but it has some information that didn't quite make sense. I don't think I liked this book all that much, just because I'm not really a big fan of legends or myths on how our world was made, but indeed they have extremely detailed drawings which spike things up a bit. I recommend this book to whoever has the taste for different legends and myths, children or adults.

Great Book for the Beginning Taper

This is an amazing book for those interested in beginning kinesiology taping and / or the benefits that it can provide. Before giving any specifics about taping, or mentioning tape at all, the author does a great job laying out the basics of movement, muscles, and anatomy. While this is not the focus of the book, these introductory sections are well-written and very helpful to anyone who is not an expert. Kim takes the same care and effort when getting to the taping itself, and helpfully lays out the general uses, benefits, and best buying practices of the tape itself. I love how she tells the reader how to use the tape before giving any 'recipes' on how to use it. This does not mean the specific taping practices are sub-par in any way. The taping sections are divided based upon body area (head, foot, etc.) and are clearly laid out, and the instructions are accompanied by detailed and helpful pictures. After trying some of the tapes out, especially in the lower back area, I was feeling better, and generally had less fatigue in those areas. Recommended for those looking to get into taping, but who don't need an exorbitant amount of information.

I would highly recommend this book

I would highly recommend this book! Regardless if it's for rehab or just injury prevention - this book - and taping in general - is someting that I believe everyone should invest in. This book is written for anyone at any intelligence level to understand. It was recommended to me by a chiropractor who was just starting to introduce me to taping, and I am so glad tht I picked this book up. It really does an amazing job in restoring your power in restoring your body. For me, it was a great book that allowed me to manage some of my issues without being so dependent on my chiropractor. I don't know about you but I don't like paying $90 an office visit, twice a week. This book certainly doesn't remove my need to see a chiropractor but what it does do is it allows me to do my own taping at home which without a doubt has helped me. I love how simple this book was to understand. I do wish it had a little bit more color but if you're not going to use color, tihs book is as good as you can get. The format was easy to read and I truly enjoyed the step by step instructions it gives you. I get extremely anxious when I read things that don't have specifics and this book was AMAZINGLY detailed with its instructions. Take the time to read the basic terms and before you begin sections - it will make (or breaK) the experience of the rest of this book for you. As a newbie, I needed someone background info and this book did a great job of doing that. Definitely useful to help with some pains I've been having issues with. I do recommend though, that you use this book in conjunction with a massage therapist, chiropractor (this book came recommended from mine) etc.

Tape it right, tape it tight(ish)

This is a great book to use as a reference for Sports Medicine or even for personal use to reduce pain.
The very first thing I noticed was the coverage of the basics. I always see athletes taped up and assumed they were using some designer tape, when in most cases the athletic trainer had just rounded off the edges. Makes perfect sense, in order for the tape to stick better and help with fraying.
I never knew there were so many different ways to tape. I normally see a shoulder, wrist or a knee tape, but author Aliana Kim gives us the full range of possibilities. Headaches, TMJ, menstrual cramps, tricep strain, groin pain, sciatica, and even nasal congestion.
The steps on how to apply tape are detailed and thorough. If tape needs to be applied in different directions, the tape is shown in different colors so it is clear to the reader. Kim also includes picture examples for every condition listed in the book.
Overall, I’m happy with the book. It’s filled with resources that I can flip back to when needed and that I can pass along to friends.

This book is a great read for everyone not just women. You could identify with at least one story in the book or probably know someone that went through it. Everyone should pick up a copy and read away! I REALLY CAN NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!!!

So I'm suffering with a broken heart and a friend of mine told me that I should read this book. Well, how can a book help me with what I'm experiencing? Well I'm here to tell you that it did help. Reading these stories from these courageous women gave me strength and it's also helping me take the proper steps on how to deal with my current situation. I love this book so much. I've realized that my situation could've been worse after reading these stories. It's a self help book, and it's not bashing men. I recommend this book.

I have always described my last heartbreak as the worst ever, and thought that no one else ever experienced what i've been through. The pain, the heartache was unbearable. I'm so happy that i bought this book because i can relate to many of these women.
Reading this book taught me that sometimes in life you have to lose in order to gain something better. Day by day i'm learning how to let go and forgive. Its a must read book!
