4 stars: story with possibility

HOLY Smokes - what an opening! I was offered and gifted a copy of this novella from the author. The synopsis looked interesting and HOT and I can promise you it lives up to it - if only initially through the prologue - the HOT part). Volume one gives nothing away, nothing past the prologue gives us a glimpse of the good Doctor and my interest were peaked.

Volume one merely sets up the life of our central character, Ramona "Roni" Gallo. The entire story is in first person so we get a strong sense of who she is - in both thoughts and dialogue. A musician and college student, she comes through as isolated and lonely, battling grief and trying to keep her head above water. By the end of volume one, we have a sense of what comes next (based entirely on the prologue, and where that falls in in the twelve volume series, there's no telling. I gotta think that a lot will unravel in her life and I know we'll get to know Roni much better. I'm not certain I'll like her. At this point, I feel sorry for her and, yes, based on the prologue, I want to see how we get there.

Good writing, great set up, and a character that I THINK I will learn to love - just a bit wary of the relationship status of the doctor (and how Roni justifies her actions in this) so that may kill it for me. Only one way to find out...

An intriguing start!

I didn't realize what a short prequel this was going to be but it ended on such a cliffhanger that I probably would have gone ahead and bought the second chapter, if only to find out exactly what Dr. Frost's backstory with Ramona is. I really enjoyed the beginning of the book; Ramona's inner monologue during the prologue is raw and blunt, almost an exact contrast to the reserved and emotionally reserved Ramona we are introduced to in the first chapter and I loved that. We know the beginning and we know where it ends up, but how they got there is the mystery and I liked that. There was a lot of character setup in this prequel, which I think is a good setup because with a lot of prequels there isn't much time to properly introduce all of the characters and give the reader a feel for who they are. I didn't learn quite as much about Ramona as I would have liked, but I know that in order for her to go from what she was in that first chapter to who she was in the very first scene of the book, something very drastic had to have taken place, and that's what I'm interested in finding out. I thought the writing flowed very well and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

The first volume of this series deserves 5 STARS for its interesting characters, intriguing plotline, almost flawless storytelling, and promises of steaming hot scenes to come…

Ramona “Roni” Gallo is a 24-year-old music student who is in a desperate financial situation. Aside from her grandmother (who lives miles away) and best friend, she basically has no one to depend on—money matters or not. It doesn’t help that she has been worrying for an upcoming group performance or that she has been feeling ill for the past month and that being sick costs a lot. As if all these troubles aren’t worth worrying enough, her past she can’t deal with seems to resurface. Part of this past leaves her with the fear of falling in love. She used to have no difficulty with avoiding commitments and ignoring her attraction to the opposite sex. Then, there was a last minute change of physician…and then there was Doctor Dexter Frost…

"My greatest fear isn’t dying broke or starving to death or being alone for the rest of my life. Not even the thought of having maggots crawling out of my nose makes my system shut down like the thought of being deeply in love with someone."

I read this knowing that it is the first volume of a series and that it ends in a cliffhanger. I usually avoid reading books ending in cliffhangers unless I have secured the second book. I have made an exception with this one, obviously. Even If I am now dying with excitement to get a hold of that next volume, I can’t help but gush! This book will totally intrigue you and keep you so involved you wouldn’t want it to end!

That prologue is just awesome! Everyone is talking about Epic Epilogues (I include myself here) but what about Panty-melting Prologues??? The prologue is hot and all, but by the way that it was written, the author was clearly aiming to capture our interest and devour every page.

Short reads usually lack a well-paced story progression, which is vital in setting the mood of the narrative, and is linked with character development. I love that this one doesn’t sacrifice character development in order to stick with the intended length. I get to know a lot about Roni’s character by the end of this book. I decided early on in my reading that she’s definitely going to make it to my not-so-long list of favorite heroines. I still have questions about her, sure, but those questions just get me more and more curious, hooked, and intrigued. The characterization is just so powerful that even the secondary characters capture my interest. I crave to learn more about them in the coming books. My “literary instinct” rarely fails me so I believe this series is going to have endearing secondary characters as well. Although Doctor Frost’s character is only introduced by the last chapter, his literary presence is intense.

All in all, what makes this a great, short read is the good writing (how I love the word choice!) and characterization. If this first volume is just a taste of what’s yet to come, then I would definitely read the next volume!

"I look up to meet his eyes, and my breath catches in my throat as the iciest, coldest pair of eyes settle on mine. They’re beyond intimidating, and they seem to pierce through my very soul with their frosty, pale blue color. They give off this strangely intense vibe that I’ve never experienced before, and I can’t seem to look away from them. They’re alluring and enticing and frightening all at once. It’s almost like looking into the eyes of a beautiful serial killer. You know it will be the end of you, but can’t for the look of you look away."

I highly recommend this book to all the true-blooded New Adult lovers out there! As long as you can put up with a cliffhanger, this one’s for you.

and with heavy heartswatch his beloved leave this mortal coil

I have followed this series from the start, read though the struggles, death, blue zeds, all with goals of the Clan coming to fruition. The author let us attend the kid's weddings, witness righteous punishment of those that threatened the Clan, and share in Bruce's riding "the wave", and with heavy hearts watch his beloved leave this mortal coil. The author has developed the persona of each clan member introduced, never getting stale or predictable, and allowed them to flourish without compromising the storyline.

The Blue Plague Series is without question one of the top series in this genre, and my personal favorite. My only complaint is the long time spent waiting for the next installment. If you are interested in this book, don't start here--get Blue Plague, the Fall, and plan on calling in sick at work, 'cuz you won't stop till you get to this new release!

Let's be honest here...

Well, after waiting for what seemed like years for this installment to come out it was finally released and I was ecstatic! Blue Plague is one of my favorite series and will most likely stay that way BUT Blue Plague:War is my least favorite so far. For starters, it is about 150 pages shorter than most of the other books, and that leaves out a LOT of story. Second, even with a publisher there are still misspellings, redundancies, and grammatical errors. It's not as bad as in previous books but still enough to cause a distraction. Third, it felt a bit like the story was cut short, like he just ran out of gas and left it a at that. And last, where is the action? Everything has become so lackadaisical and monotonous. Most of the action takes place between Bruce, Angela, and Stephanie and it's getting rather annoying. SPOILER ALERT: The whole fainting scene between the women, Mike, and Nancy is really quite ridiculous, as is the Bruce thing when he found out about the pregnancies. It's beginning to feel as if Mr. Watson is tiring of the Blue Plague series and is running out of gas. If that is the case, I would rather wait a little longer between books and have one epic edition that ties everything up and leave it at that. If that is not the case, please take more time and give us more meat and less salad. ;)

How do you make blue humanoid monsters scarier (when they already have super human strength, endurance and healing - and destroy humans as a general practice)... Give them a sword!

Bruce is back with the whole family, and things are ramping up.

Another tremendous work from Mr. Watson that leaves you screaming for the next installment. The growth and development of the characters has been chronicled perfectly, with no leaps or gaps. There is not one paragraph in this book that will do anything other than add to your enjoyment of this series

E. A. Clarke is British teenager, born and raised in the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Emotional, hilarious and heart-warming.

I've been a fan of this author for quite a while, following some of her amateur works online. This is her first official publication and original novel, and I have to say, it's as entertaining and emotional as anything else she's written.

The book itself is of reasonable length. I purchased it anticipating a good read, and I wasn't disappointed. Clarke instantly dives in to the world of Jude Lean, leaving no boring introductions or opening chapters. Her trademark humour slides intricately throughout the novel as we switch from Connor's point of view to Judes, and back again. The conflicting emotions of the two lead characters is the driving force, and, for those who are a fan of agonising romances, thoroughly feeds this particular reader's adamant need for emotional turmoil. We follow Connor through scandal, unwanted publicity and his deep, sometimes unwanted upheavals, and Jude through a point in his life that he never thought he'd have to face.

Aside from minor spelling errors, there is little at fault in this publication. It is very, VERY obviously not for children (explicit sex scenes among other things). Clarke winds us up just enough into the lives of the characters, providing backstory and context while driving the plot forward in leaps and bounds. I bought this book early this morning, and finished it minutes ago, at 5pm. It is just one of those novels that takes you in in an instant, and refuses to let you go until you're finished.

I am silently hoping for a sequel, perhaps some bonus sections that will tell us of Connor's life after the end of the novel, because it ended in such a way that made me question many, /many/ things.

For a debut, it is absolutely astounding. I have always known Clarke to be a master at writing adult material, but this takes it to the next level. I can only hope that she continues to write and release more, not least just about Jude and Connor.

Never before has smut made me laugh and cry. After following Clarkes blog for Christ knows how long and being an avid reader of dptf@m etc. this book is like having a small part of Ao3 on my bookshelf

LaVerne L. Ludden has a doctorate in adult and community education and has taught leadeship, adult education, and business courses at the university level for more than 25 years. Luden is a professor in the doctoral program in organizational leadership at Indiana Wesleyan University. As a former dean of adult and continuing studies, and as a successful small business owner, he bridges the gap between an employer's and employee's expectations.

Ludden is the author of 12 books. He has held leadership positions in the American Society for Training and Development, International Leadership Association, and the Association of Career Professionals International.

Only useful if you've already started on that path.

I bought this for a Work Experience course I was taking at the time. There are useful pieces of information scattered throughout the book, but then you have a lot of information which comes off as common sense (take that with a grain of salt). My biggest disappointment (with the book and the course) is that the focus was primarily on keeping a job rather than finding one. Part of my course requirement was to have a job, and I since I didn't, the alternative was to attend volunteer work. Completing the course (and thus finishing the text) didn't really fix the problem of transitioning into new employment (something which didn't happen until about six months later).

Final verdict: If you want to brush up on ways to improve yourself as an employee, and you can find this cheaply, then knock yourself out. If that doesn't apply to you, look elsewhere.
