No better book at present
By Beowulf
I use this as a primary text in my Graduate level "Counseling victims of sexual trauma" class. It is not an easy read, especially for those who have gone through these issues. It is also a scholarly text, well researched and well written. If you are a survivor of incest, there are easier and possibly more appropriate books to read. If you are looking to understand the nature of the trauma and symptoms as well as some treatment methodologies, then this is the place to start. Dr. Courtois is a leader in the field, and this text reinforces that.

Outstanding
By Elise
This book was the most wonderful I had ever read on understanding the dynamics of incest, it's incredible impact on it's victims, and the importance of validation.
I found myself in many of the pages as the answers in this book connected all the dots to this horrific crime against it's victims. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has suffered through incest!

A few years ago, deals were done in dimly-lit side streets or on the phone via a friend of a friend. Today, you can order every conceivable pill or powder with the click of a mouse. But the online market in narcotics isn't just changing the way drugs are bought and sold; it's changing the nature of drugs themselves. Enterprising dealers are using the web to engage highly skilled foreign chemists to tweak the chemical structures of banned drugs - just enough to create a similar effect, just enough to render them legal in most parts of the world. Drugs such as mephedrone (aka meow meow) are marketed as 'not for human consumption', but everyone knows exactly how they're going to be used - what they can't know is whether their use might prove fatal. From UK dancefloors to a department of toxicology, via social networking sites and underground labs, Mike Power explores this agile, international, virtual subculture that will always be one step ahead of the law.

Review

“Fascinating and vividly written...His is an informed and thoroughly hip intervention into a public debate that is too often evidence-hostile and tabloid-panderingly disingenuous.” ―The Guardian (UK)

“Power is a sure guide through this cyberworld, with its torrent of new tablets, capsules and powders...Power is not impervious to the moral ambivalences of this frenetic world...His conclusion that in the digital age, traditional prohibition enforcement is bound to fail seems as undeniable a fact as the M25.” ―Daily Telegraph (UK)

“[Power] lifts the lid on forums where amateur chemists and dedicated drug experiments compare notes. Anyone who has remained unaware of the existence of the Dark Web will be genuinely shocked at what it's now possible to buy on the streets.” ―Herald (UK)

“A compelling account of how the internet has revolutionized the global drug trade.” ―Playboy

“An informed, entertaining and profoundly sobering explanation of the state of play in the modern day global narcotics trade....Power delves into the minutiae and oddities of the trade's development in illuminating detail. Some of it is technical, but it's rarely dry and often very funny.... Profoundly compelling.” ―Metro (UK)

“A clearheaded look at a hidden subculture.” ―New Scientist

“An authoritative and compellingly lucid account on one of the most important topics drug prohibition has created. Very few books have ever managed to convince me that the author truly understands this topic as well as Mike does. Remember to buy two and give one to your local politician.” ―Dread Pirate Roberts, Silk Road, December 2013

“A stimulating read...a must-read for anyone interested in pharmaceuticals, popular culture or the ever-changing face of the web.” ―Skinny (UK)

“A comprehensive report on how the Internet has revolutionized illicit narcotic sales. … A compelling, accessible perspective on the global e-tail drug market.” ―Kirkus Reviews

Good Book
By Leslie
I personally really liked this book but it is not an easy read for everyone. It was chosen as a book for my book club and it did not go over well. I think that the reading level was too high for a large group to all read it, unless it is a college course or something like that. There were two individuals who struggled with reading this and were not able to finish it, they were people who I would put at a high school reading level. All of the others in the group with medium to high reading levels really enjoyed the book and we were able to have some good discussions on the book. Overall, very informative and written in a friendly but also professional manner. I would suggest this with anyone interested in a history of the drug culture.

Eye opening

A stylishly written and well-researched insight into a parallel universe of chemical exploration nimbly outfoxing legislation, whose leaden-footed responses seem designed to cause more harm than good. Brilliant.

Literary Theory: A Very Short Introduction, by Jonathan Culler

What is literary theory? Is there a relationship between literature and culture?

These are some of questions addressed by Jonathan Culler in this new edition of his highly popular Literary Theory: A Very Short Introduction. Culler, an extremely lucid commentator and much admired in the field of literary theory, uses easy-to-grasp examples as he outlines the ideas behind schools of criticism that can otherwise be quite daunting, such as deconstruction, semiotics, and postcolonial theory. He explains "theory" not by describing warring "schools" but by sketching key "moves" that theory has encouraged, and by speaking directly about the implications of theory for thinking about literature, human identity, and the power of language.

In this Second Edition, Culler includes much new material, including a discussion of the "death of theory," a look at topics such as trauma theory, eco-criticism, and the link between the theory of narrative and cognitive science, plus a new chapter on "Ethics and Aesthetics." Shedding light on everything from literature and social identity, to poetry, poetics, and rhetoric, Literary Theory is a welcome guide for all lovers of literature.

A brilliant little book
By Steven Reynolds
This is an excellent text for students new to literary theory, but even the more experienced readers should be delighted by it. Rather than simply making an historical tour through various schools of thought, Culler relegates that to a useful appendix and instead focuses on key questions and concepts, beginning with 'What is Theory?' and 'What is Literature?' - two very good questions which are too rarely asked. He then explores various focuses of literary studies, such as meaning, poetics, narrative and identity. Culler's great skill here is to summarize without simplifying; to make refreshingly plain what other writers seem to delight in rendering obscure. (His cogent analysis of the intersection between literature and cultural studies in Chapter 3 is the clearest and most insightful I've ever read.) Intelligently structured, full of useful examples, and often employing a wryly humorous tone, Culler makes literary theory interesting, inspiring and above all accessible - something any student will undoubtedly appreciate.

Finally, an explanation!
By Amazon Customer
I studied literary theory at University for several years, but in all that time I never once heard a professor explain the basic framework that theory operates under. Thank somebody at Oxford University Press and J Culler for finally doing it! Now I can go back with some idea of what it is everyone is assuming I already know.

There are quite a few instances where the author uses terms generally reserved for academic conversation. However, the book is neither trite, nor pandering, nor condescending. It simply explains the basic idea of how literary theory works and what it strives to achieve.

If I ever make to past my doctoral thesis and into an actual teaching sitch, I'd think about using this book with freshmen as a way of introducing theory in an unitimidating way.

short and sweet
By A Customer
Literary theory is a pretty imposing topic, and it's especially imposing to people like myself who don't have a liberal arts education. So, I was really happy to find Culler's introduction to literary theory. Rather than hiding behind a taxonomy of the various schools of thought, he discusses and attempts to answer some difficult questions: What is theory? What is literature? Why might we care about the answers to these questions? My take on this book is that Culler has successfully managed to convey some of the difficult and interesting challenges of theory to uninitiated readers without dumbing down the subject too much. Recommended.

SHE PUT THE SEX INTO SEXAGENARIAN!

Monica Porter, a sixty-year-old grandmother, thinks her sex life is over when she is ditched by her long-term partner. But then she joins a dating website, and finds that her age acts as an aphrodisiac to hordes of highly-sexed young men, who fantasise about ‘hot older women’.

Monica throws caution to the wind, as she embarks on one exciting assignation after the other, having the wildest time of her life. Naturally her sons would be horrified at the risks she takes, not to mention mortified by her escapades with men younger than themselves. But it’s not a problem, as she has no intention of telling them.

But there is another hazard to consider… not to her physical being, but to her psyche. Gradually her year of dating dangerously affects her entire outlook on relationships with men, and not in a good way. How will it all end? And will it have been worth the price?

Witty, funny and full of thoughtful observations about sex and relationships, Monica Porter’s ‘yummy grand-mummy’ memoir is the first of its kind. Some readers may be shocked by Monica’s lifestyle, but most will cheer her gung-ho spirit, and secretly envy her hit rate with London’s cool young dudes!

Reviews for Monica Porter’s previous books:

The Paper Bridge: A Return to Budapest
“Charming, unaffected… A sincere, essentially saddening book.” - Sunday Telegraph

“Her book was first published 30 years ago. Reissued now in a new edition, it permits another kind of travel – time travel – though its astute observations bear up well to the scrutiny of history.” - Daily Mail

“Of all the books timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the revolutions of 1989, The Paper Bridge may have the most charm. Deadly Carousel: A Singer's Story of the Second World War
“Immensely readable…with the unerring eye of a journalist Monica Porter traces every event and character.” - Jewish Chronicle

“Gripping memoir, and a salute to the spirit of Hungary.” - The Observer

So you’ve seen the promotion for this book right? You may be thinking it’s just an older woman talking about having sex with younger men? Well, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, the book is a journal of sexual encounters. However, there is more than meets the eye when embarking upon this book. To begin with, the woman in question Monica is a joy to behold. A 60 year old Grandmother living in London, Monica feels that her sex life is finished after a split with her partner. However, this is far from the end of the line.

Monica, feeling like many of us do, wasted mentally and physically decides to join an online dating site. Finding little success to begin with, she soon finds herself receiving the attention her heart (and body) desires… from younger men. Though she isn’t specifically looking for younger men, the majority of the encounters are, luckily for us, with younger men. From there on in the memoir focuses on sexual encounters, mainly with these younger men and the effect they have on her. Of course there is an element of danger as mentioned in the title. An unfortunate encounter leads to potential trouble; however Monica would not be deterred by this. It’s moments like this that make this book a must read. As mentioned, it’s not all plain sailing. The effect it has on her life and those around her is fascinating.

Throughout, sexual moments are captured with wonderful imagery and power throughout, making it hard for the reader to put the book down. Following this exciting and memorable part of her life captures the reader beyond all imagination. Monica has a wonderful confidence about her that compliments her writing immensely. She doesn’t want to rewrite the script when it comes to dating; she just wants to change the stereotype. With this confidence comes an air of boastfulness. However this is something that should be celebrated not dismissed. Here is an attractive and successful woman who has the world (and many attractive men) at her feet at the age of 60. Rejoice and admire!

Of course all good things come to an end…or do they? Has the whole experience left Monica wanting more of the same? With a woman such as Monica you know this book will come to a satisfying conclusion. It is for this reason that the book is a must read. The writing itself flows effortlessly from chapter to chapter. It’s neither too long nor too short but just a desirable length leaving you wanting more. The wit that accompanies the book often brings a smile to your face. Monica is a likeable person who is hard not to admire. By the end of the book you find yourself caring about her and feeling a part of her life.

If anything, simply read this to be enamoured by the wonderful way with words she has. In a way, this book is life affirming. A person of any age can read this and tap into the confidence and excitement Monica feels. I feel that perhaps without even realising it, Monica Porter has broken the taboo of older women and younger men and created an incredibly important piece of writing. For that she should be saluted.

Too much Sex in the City for me
By Natalie Attired
When Monica Porter found herself single at 60 and decided to try online dating I cheered her on. Good for her - responding to being dumped by her partner of more than a dozen years by sleeping with several young and fit men, I thought. But I quickly came to feel uncomfortable - the men were very very young and I couldn't help thinking how low my opinion would have been if a 60 year old man wrote about sleeping with young girls. To be fair, Monica does address this moral inequality - although she seems to think the world would cheer the old man on...not in my world, Monica. Not in my world.

Monica Porter references Sex in the City several times- she lacks any subtlety as far as making sure the reader is in no doubt she is a deeply attractive woman who lives in a trendy part of London and knows exactly how to have a good time ( and we occasionally get far too much information about exactly how the author likes to have a good time- was it really necessary to hear how much she enjoys anal sex?) According to her account, young men are throwing themselves at her feet, even when she is minding her own business down at the local health club, where she swims 5 times a week in order to further tone her beautiful body. There are older men too, although most of them come across as rather pathetic specimens, with their sagging bodies and emotional baggage. Some of them live in the suburbs, FGS! And one likes caravaning in Norfolk! Oh the horrors of dating a age appropriate man!

Despite Ms Porter's apparently super sized ego, I couldn't help wondering if, in fact, her self esteem is very low. She talks herself up but was apparently desperate enough to break all the 'rules' of online dating- meeting unknown men at her home, having sex on the first ( and often only) date and sending selfies of herself in lingerie to men's iPhones, sometimes requested, sometimes not. In an early episode, a powerful young man calls her 'mummy' and attempts to throttle her during sex but Ms Porter seems to chalk this up to experience and carries on regardless, even though her daughter in law pleads with her to be less reckless. Perhaps we are meant to see her as edgy and exciting but I wasn't buying it. I wondered how such an intelligent woman could be so stupid.

Overall, Monica Porter displays a lack of respect for virtually everyone in this story, including herself and, at times, her readers, with exchanges that seem downright fanciful. I wanted to empathise and understand, but by the end of the book I simply didn't like the author enough to care.

The Stranger Beside Me: The Twentieth Anniversary Edition, by Ann Rule

"As dramatic and chilling as a bedroom window shattering at midnight." ―New York Times

Ted Bundy was handsome, charming, a brilliant law student, and on the verge of a dazzling career. On January 24, 1989, he was executed for the murders of three young women, having confessed to taking the lives of at least thirty-five more.

This is the story of one of the most fascinating killers in American history―of his magnetic power, his bleak compulsion, his double life, his string of helpless victims. It is also the story of Ann Rule, a writer working on the biggest story of her life, tracking down a brutal mass murderer. Little did she realize that the "Ted" the police were seeking was the same Ted who worked with her at a Seattle crisis clinic, a man who had become her close friend and confidant. As she began to put the evidence together, a terrifying picture emerged of the man she thought she knew.

Thirty-five years after it was first published, The Stranger Beside Me remains a gripping, explosive true-crime classic.

Amazon.com Review
Not long ago, true crime writer Ann Rule recalls lying on an operating table. The anesthesiologist leaned over before putting her to sleep. "Ann," the anesthesiologist said softly, "tell me, what was Ted Bundy really like?" Despite meeting Florida's electric chair in 1989, the subject of Rule's bestselling book continues to haunt her. Rule and Bundy were friends. They met in 1971 at a Seattle crisis clinic, where they shared the late shift answering a suicide hotline. Their subsequent conversations, meetings, and letters spanned the rest of Bundy's life as he evolved into one of the century's most notorious serial killers. It's been 20 years since Rule first penned this chilling account. But the story--and her 2000 update--will still have readers reaching for their Xanax. No gratuitous gore here; just the basic, bone-chilling evidence. In fact, like a protective mother shielding us from horrors too awful to mention, Rule seems to avoid delving too deeply into crime scene descriptions. She devotes one paragraph in her new afterword to her discovery that Bundy engaged in necrophilia and returned to the scenes of his crimes to "line dead lips and eyes with garish makeup and to put blush on pale cheeks." She tells readers that John Hinckley, who shot Ronald Reagan, and David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam Killer, traded prison correspondences with Bundy. And she hints that Bundy's insatiable killer instincts may have started when he was a 14-year-old paperboy. (Ann Marie Burr, an 8-year-old girl on his route, mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the night and has never been found.) The skimpy update is over too soon, leaving readers wanting more and offering further proof of the public's never-ending fascination with serial killers. --Jodi Mailander Farrell

From Library Journal
Rule met Bundy at a local crisis counseling center. Sharing long nights helping those who felt that suicide was the only option, they developed a friendship. She believed that she knew the handsome psychology major about to attend law school; however, she only knew a part of the man. Bundy was also a cold-blooded serial killer. This story follows Rule as she at first denies that the Bundy she knew could have committed these murders, and then the realization that he was ruthless, dangerous, and evil. Lorelei King is a phenomenal reader; her vocal characterizations never seem forced and fit seamlessly into the narration. Listeners will be spellbound and anxiously awaiting the next twist, when they are not double-locking their windows and doors. A wonderful tape that will find a home in all true crime collections. One warning: some of the descriptions of the crime scenes and murder victims are a bit graphic and may want to be avoided by those with delicate constitutions. Danna Bell-Russel, Library of Congress

Truly Terrifying
By Wendy Kaplan
I had heard of this book, of course; had wanted to read it for years, so when this 20th anniversary edition came out, I decided to give it a go. I had a pre-conceived notion: OK, this is going to be a really interesting biography of Ted Bundy, with the added attraction of having been written by a former dear friend. Fast, easy crime reading, I thought.
I was wrong. This story is so chilling, so frightening, it grips you in the gut. Ann Rule has simply stated the facts. No sensationalism, no gratuitous gore, no psychobabble. Just the facts. As they happend. And even though the reader might think of Ted Bundy as "old news," and even though he was executed in 1989, this book makes one check to see that the doors and windows are locked.
There are actually two stories here: one describes the gradual disintegration of a seemingly normal, affable, brilliant man into a sexual psychopath so evil, so methodical in his vicious killings, that one wonders if he was at all human. The other story is that of Ann Rule herself, a decent, hard-working, middle-aged mother of four who meets and befriends a nice young man working beside her in a crisis clinic. A man she regards as a younger brother; a man she views as a close and trusted friend. The slow but inexorable realization on Rule's part that this man is in fact an unspeakably violent serial killer is as painful to read as it was for her to experience.
Each victim is described in terms of such respect and such anguish that even a family member, I think, can feel that his or her daughter has been given a chance to shine, a chance to be more than a victim, more than a nameless number (8th girl killed, and so forth). The poignancy of these girls' very human preoccupations and lives serves to outline the contrasting horror in even more detail. That is why Rule does not have to defile the victims with intricate detail. The contrast between their young lives and their terrible deaths is enough in itself.
Rule's new Afterward, written in 2000, is fascinating. She has not "recovered and moved on"; there is no real "closure." She has come to accept that the incomprehensible contrast between Ted the Dear Friend and Ted the Monster will never leave her, and will never be fully explained, no matter how many facts she sifts, no matter how much progress has been made in understanding the sexual psychopath. It is her fate to have known Bundy in all his skins; it is our privilege to read her account of it.

THIS KILLER BESIDE ME...
By lawyeraau
This is an excellent true crime book. It has an unusual twist in that the author and the subject of the book, serial killer Ted Bundy, had a platonic relationship that arose from the time they were co-workers for a Seattle, Washington crisis center. Quite frankly, the author initially had no idea that Ted Bundy was anything other than what he appeared to be: a handsome, intelligent, charismatic, and articulate young man, who was, at the time, involved in local politics and later became a law student.

When he became the suspect in the disappearance and murders of a number of very young, pretty women, the author was in total disbelief. As the evidence mounted against her friend, the author, who is a former police officer, could not shut her eyes to the reality that Ted Bundy was actually a very disturbed individual who was guilty of all of which he was accused and probably guilty of other such crimes for which he was not accused for evidentiary reasons. Consequently, the author would suffer some angst for many years, as she struggled to reconcile the Ted Bundy that she thought she knew with the fiend who was compelled to commit so many vicious abductions, assaults, and murders. It is believed that at least thirty-five young women, and probably a good number more, died at the hands of Ted Bundy.

The author details the abductions, assaults, and murders of his victims from coast to coast, which crimes were ultimately to make Ted Bundy a nationwide household name, and an entity to be feared. The investigative efforts of law enforcement officers in the states of Washington, Utah, Colorado, and Florida are revealed, as are Ted Bundy's arrests and his trials. She also details his two escapes from custody in Colorado, the last of which would find him heading to the sunshine state of Florida.

Florida was an interesting choice of state for Ted Bundy, as it is a death penalty state in which convicted felons, who have been given the death penalty, are actually executed. Notwithstanding Florida's stance on capital crime, Ted Bundy went on to commit a slew of shocking assaults and murders in Florida for which he was ultimately arrested, tried, and convicted. Considering the fact that Ted Bundy could have chosen to relocate to a state other than Florida after his last escape from custody in Colorado, it almost appears as if he had a death wish by going to Florida and continuing to give in to his sick compulsion. Unfortunately for him, Florida was quite happy to make his wish come true, and on January 24, 1989, Ted Bundy was executed, and his reign of terror was finally over.

Those who like the true crime genre will enjoy this well-written and well-researched book. It is highly detailed and contains a great deal of information, some of it quite personal due to the author's relationship with Ted Bundy. She paints a very intriguing, intimate portrait of him, one that is three dimensional and complex. He was definitely a man whose benign and compelling external visage was at odds with his many internal demons, as he was a prolific serial killer. Externally, Ted Bundy was the sort of man towards whom women gravitated, and there was no dearth of Ted Bundy groupies once he made headlines.

In the updates at the end of the book, the author theorizes as to why Ted Bundy, a young man of so much promise, would end up the way that he did, and she provides some interesting and personal familial information from which the reader may draw his or her own conclusion. All in all, aficionados of the true crime genre will find much of interest in this book.

Stranger Than Fiction
By Melissa Hardie
Without a doubt, the coincidence that found Ann Rule already acquainted with the prime suspect in a series of brutal murders is one that would be hard to believe if this were fiction. But it's not -- Rule, contracted to write the story of the elusive "Ted," discovers that her former colleague, Ted Bundy, curiously resembles the profile of the killer. Rule's later career as one of the most spectacularly successful true crime writers was significantly enhanced by the publication of this book. She writes with a surprising candor of the intimacy between herself and the Republican Party aspirant and law student who was eventually put to death after committing an unknown number of killings in an unknown number of states. Bundy's episodic rampages through the states of Utah, Washington and Florida are well known, and he is, in many ways, the most "famous" of modern serial killers. On the constitution of the serial killer as a modern identity, there's probably nothing better than Mark Selzer's book Serial Killers, a fascinating study of this modern pathology which traces the identity assumed by Bundy and other back to Jack the Ripper. The Ripper, as the first elusive, anonymous, random killer to gain notoriety in popular culture, offered an "identikit" profile for the serial killer which Bundy, as "Ted," fits perfectly.
Rule's book reads like a curious amalgam of true crime and romance fiction, and, in many ways, this is a love story of sorts. Rule's fascination with Bundy reminds us of the charismatic powers of the sociopathic personality, and its plaint, adaptable face in this competitive culture we find ourselves in. Some might find her portrait of Bundy disturbing: she remains, through most of the book, reluctant to acknowledge the severity and hideousness of his crimes. But she acknowledges them, finally, in her graphic retelling of courtroom testimony, and in her humble incomprehension of the pain that Bundy brought to the lives of many. If you're looking for a book about this iconic figure, it's hard to go past The Stranger Beside Me. One way or another, it's become a classic true crime narrative. Rule taps into the rule of contingency that dogs serial killings: everything takes place merely because of opportunity, coincidence, random fate. And everything seems to have a moral, though Rule is properly reticent about what the moral here might be. My only hesitation concerns the way in which Rule introduces the victims: in some ways, it's more like a roster call than the poignant series of vignettes she intends. There are facts here that have been better discussed elsewhere, perhaps, but because of the strange coincidence that drew Rule and Bundy together, it's a powerful book.

Review
"Biodesign is on the forward edge of one of the most exciting new frontiers of health care. This impressive and engaging work provides a thorough look at the innovation process. But this is certainly not just for the scientific innovators: it is a must-read for anyone in any aspect of health care today."
Alex Gorsky, Chairman and CEO, Johnson & Johnson

"I can't think of a more important place to turn creativity loose than in designing the future of healthcare. But it's a complicated scene - and it's easy to get lost in the maze of stakeholders, regulation, and financing. Biodesign lays out a clear and logical map to find and pursue opportunities for real innovation. One of the core messages in this new edition is that by placing the need for affordability up front in design process, innovators can more explicitly create technologies that bring value to the healthcare system. This is design thinking at its best!"
David Kelley, Founder, Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, Stanford University, and Founder, IDEO

"A [must-read] textbook for anyone in academia or industry, in any country, who wants to innovate and deliver value to patients and health systems around [the] world."
Koji Nakao, Chairman, Terumo, and Japanese Federation of Medical Device Associations

"If you want to know how to come up with a both innovative and transformative technology in medicine, there isn't a better resource than this book by Paul Yock and his colleagues at Biodesign. Over thirteen years ago, the program at Stanford brought together transdisciplinary innovators - engineers, physicians and business experts - to not only design their formidable program, but to teach all the rest of us how to do it."
Eric J. Topol, Director, Scripps Translational Science Institute

"... this book on biodesign will be invaluable for any inventor or entrepreneur. It contains very useful information on such critical areas as design principles, regulatory issues, clinical trial strategies, intellectual property, reimbursement strategies, and funding - and it backs them up with interesting real-life experiences and case studies."

An absolute MUST READ for medical device entrepreneurs!
By Shivanand Lad
Biodesign: The Process of Innovating Medical Technologies is an absolute MUST READ for medical device entrepreneurs. By bringing together the necessary elements from medicine, engineering and business, it teaches the process of medical device innovation. I am using the new edition to teach students, residents and faculty the Biodesign process to address the most compelling unmet needs in Neuro. There are a number of factors that one must consider at the very beginning, when thinking about an unmet clinical need. Factors ranging from Regulatory, Reimbursement, IP, Competitive Landscape and Clinical Trials, are some of the many considerations that Biodesign teaches through a series of real world vignettes and customized videos in the new edition. Many thanks to the authors for their hard work and dedication. Together, they have made a lasting impact, not only by teaching entrepreneurs in small startups to big companies, but positively impacting countless more patients' lives by influencing the next generation of medical devices.

The BIBLE of Medical Devices Development
By Dorian Kim
It absolutely worths the price! I've just started to read this fresh book, and I'm astonished from its relevance and applicability in the current medical device market (2015). As a researcher and engineer working in the MedTech field, I couldn't find any other book which covers all the relevant subjects and materials. The book has a very wide scope, speaking also about patents, regulatory approval, reimbursement, market dynamics, business models, competition, financing, clinical trials, technical feasibility, design controls, and such as. Highly recommended for engineers, physicians, entrepreneurs and project managers that are part of a new medical item development project. BTW, their site (http://ebiodesign.org/) is brilliant as well, containing very interesting and useful materials and videos.
